Freeman: B1G Co-Freshman of the Week

March 23, 2015

ROSEMONT, Ill. - After helping Rutgers baseball to its first Big Ten series victory, freshman Milo Freeman (Millburn, N.J.) has been named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week. It marks the first weekly honor for the baseball program in the Scarlet Knights' new conference.

Freeman went 8-for-14 (.571) in four games last week for RU, including a 4-for-4 effort in the Sunday rubber game victory at Purdue. The nine-hole hitter ripped an RBI single in his first at bat to give the Scarlet Knights an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. He then laid down a perfect bunt single the second time up and followed with two more singles later on. The rookie added three stolen bases in the contest, the most by a player in a Big Ten game last weekend.

In addition, Freeman made the play of the game defensively at third base in the fourth inning. With a runner at second and two outs, he snared a sharply hit chopper to the backhand and regathered his footing to fire across the diamond for the inning-ending putout.

Freeman went 1-for-2 off the bench in the Saturday game versus the Boilermakers and logged a 2-for-3 effort Wednesday at Ball State. For the season, he leads Rutgers with a .371 batting average in 15 games.

The Scarlet Knights (5-14, 2-1) are back at Bainton Field Tuesday to host NJIT at 3 p.m. The next Big Ten series will be at home starting Friday versus Ohio State.
