PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- For the third consecutive year, Rutgers baseball has run a fundraiser to support the Vs. Cancer Foundation. The Scarlet Knights have raised over $22,000 towards pediatric cancer research since starting the initiative in 2013.

Vs. Cancer Foundation t-shirts will be sold at Saturday's game at Bainton Field versus Iowa with the profits benefitting the cause. Half of all proceeds will benefit national childhood cancer research and the other half will help kids directly at the local Children's Hospital at St. Peter's. "The Vs. Cancer Foundation is an amazing opportunity for people to help kids affected with cancer feel like kids again," said sophomore pitcher Colin Bohnert (West Caldwell, N.J.), who is spearheading the efforts. "Some of our team members have visited the local Children's Hospital at St. Peter's to see the good the fundraising does.  As a result of the previous two years of fundraising, our team has directly contributed to an addition in the Children's Hospital as well as a program called "Beads of Courage" for chemo patients.

"It is important to our team to give back to the community.  We have been blessed with the opportunity to play college baseball and the ability to use this platform to make a difference."

The Scarlet Knights have also joined forces to back senior Jon Young (Old Bridge, N.J.) and his efforts to support the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research this season. The reliever has been donating based on scoreless innings pitched to honor his late mother, who passed away in January. Click here for information on how to get involved.

Rutgers will resume play Thursday at home at 3 p.m. against Iowa.
