PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Head Rutgers women's lacrosse coach Laura Brand-Sias announced Tuesday the hire of Taryn VanThof as the newest assistant coach on the program's staff.
The 2014-15 U.S. Women's National Lacrosse Team selection and three-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American brings an immensity of experience to RU after concluding her career at Loyola University Maryland this past spring.
"We are very excited to add Taryn to our staff. Her experience as an impact player on a highly ranked team as well as her experience with the U.S. National Team will bring immediate benefit to our players," Brand-Sias said. "Taryn is known for her ability on the draw as well as her top-rated play in the midfield and on offense. This, coupled with her passion for teaching the finite skills of lacrosse, will immediately benefit our program as a whole."
A decorated NCAA athlete with the Greyhounds, VanThof earned IWLCA Third Team All-America honors from 2013-15. The midfield standout notched 108 goals and 52 assists in her career for 160 points, also accumulating 127 ground balls and a staggering 318 draw controls. VanThof owns the single-season (122) and career (318) Loyola Maryland draw control record.
The three-time all-conference selection (BIG EAST '13, Patriot League '14, '15) helped Loyola Maryland to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2015, where the Greyhounds were narrowly edged by No. 4 Syracuse, 10-7. In her final season, VanThof tallied a career-best points mark of 53 (30g, 23a), including two game-winning goals.
The Greyhounds advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA Tournament in all four years of VanThof's playing career, also making a quarterfinal run during her redshirt season in 2012.
Along with her success on the field, VanThof dedicated her time on the coaching front throughout her playing career. While with the Greyhounds, the Livonia, N.Y., native spent time as a coach and player coach with Seven Lacrosse Training (Baltimore, Md.), C2 Lacrosse (Baltimore, Md.), Lady Roc Lacrosse Inc. (East Rochester, N.Y.), and Maximum Exposure Lacrosse Company.
She was also selected by the Loyola Maryland coaching staff to represent the program on the Jeff Jansen Leadership Academy, where she honed her leadership skills with a variety of training sessions and activities.
VanThof graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2015 with a bachelor's in business administration, earning a double specialization in management and marketing.
