Tennis Falls to Nebraska in Big Ten Opener

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Rutgers tennis lost its Big Ten Conference opener to Nebraska, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The Cornhuskers clinched the doubles point and swept singles action to secure the victory.

"We're really bringing the right attitude and the right work ethic to go along with our strategy," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "We just have to continue to work on executing when it gets close."
Two Scarlet Knights brought their respective singles matches to the third decisive set. In No. 3 singles, junior Chloe Lee defeated Paula Del Cueto, 6-3, in the second set before Del Cueto claimed a 10-5 tiebreaker for the win.
Senior Farris Cunningham also enjoyed a hard-fought match. The Houston, Texas, native lost a close first set, 7-6 (5-0), before she handed Jeannie Lozowski a 7-5 defeat in the second. Lozowski was able to steal the match in the No. 6 position with a 10-5 tiebreaker.
RU returns to action against Penn on Sunday in Philadelphia. The match begins at noon.
