
Casten, Dunphey Earn All-Big Ten Recognition

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday the 2017 All-Big Ten honorees in women's lacrosse. Highlighting the list for Rutgers was senior midfielder Kristina Dunphey and junior defender Amanda Casten. It marked the second consecutive season both have appeared on the All-Big Ten team.
"I'm proud of Mandy and Kristina particularly because this year, we were a true sum of our parts," said head coach Laura Brand-Sias. "For them to stand out in the eyes of other Big Ten coaches is a great honor"
Dunphey appeared in all 16 games for the Scarlet Knights this season, leading the team in points (43) and goals (31). The Hillsborough, New Jersey, native scored multiple goals nine times this season, which included a five-goal outburst on March 15 against Manhattan. Dunphey had five hat tricks in 2017, and led RU in caused turnovers with 14.
Dunphey closed out her collegiate career with 125 points, good for 17th all-time in program history. Dunphey became the 24th player in program history to eclipse the 100-point milestone this season, finishing her time "On the Banks" with 89 goals and 36 assists.
Casten anchored the Scarlet Knight defense with 21 ground balls, 10 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers in 2017. In RU's 12-9 victory over then-No. 18 James Madison, the Brick, New Jersey, native forced two turnovers and corralled two ground balls to help Rutgers secure the road win.
Rutgers finished the 2017 campaign with eight wins, the most for the program since 2014. The Scarlet Knights picked up two league victories, including a 16-14 road decision against Michigan. Against the Wolverines, Dunphey produced four goals, while Casten contributed two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
