Men's Soccer Welcomes Hartford on Saturday

Kickoff Between Scarlet Knights and Hawks at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's soccer team looks to shake off last weekend's loss in the home opener to Elon with a nonconference contest against Hartford on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Saturday is "R Dollar, Your Game" Awareness Night. Rutgers Athletics offers Scarlet Knight Nation the opportunity to attend more than 100 NCAA contests during the 2018-19 season completely free of charge. LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK
Junior Jordan Hall scored the lone goal for the Scarlet Knights, his second of the year, against the Phoenix on Sunday. The Manchester, England native got RU onto the scoreboard after the break with a takeaway in the midfield leading to shot from the top of the 18 into the lower right corner of the Elon goal.
Earlier in the week, Rutgers closed out a season opening three-game road trip capturing a 2-0 win at Mount Saint Mary's. Sophomores Miles Franklyn and Kyle Galloway came off the RU bench, both netting their first collegiate goals. Franklyn put away the game-winner in the 40th minute off a deflection sent in by classmate Vincenzo Pugliese. Galloway later knocked in an insurance goal in the 69th minute set up by Brian Hawkins from the left side of the box.
ABOUT HARTFORD
The Hawks arrive in Piscataway with a 0-3-1 record coming off a 2-1 double overtime loss against Niagara on Monday.
Sophomore defender Marc Alexander found the equalizer in the 79th minute against the Purple Eagles forcing extra time. Niagara, however, in the 109th minute converted a penalty kick for the win.
Senior midfielder Xahne Reid and Alexander have both tallied goals in the early season for Hartford.
Junior Jimmy Slayton has started all four games in goal having made 13 saves with a 1.58 goals against average and .650 save percentage.
Entering the 2018 campaign, the Hawks return seven of its nine goal scorers from the previous season including America East All-Rookie Team member sophomore forward Rasmus Karlson (2G, 1A) and sophomore forward Nyrik Antoine (2G).
RANKING THE SCHEDULE
Four upcoming 2018 opponents are currently featured in the United Soccer Coaches Poll including No. 3 Michigan State and national runner-up No. 4 Indiana.
Also receiving votes in the poll that the Scarlet Knights will see this season is Big Ten regular season champion Michigan, as well as Maryland.
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER
Junior forward Jordan Hall picked up a plethora of awards this summer in helping his Port City FC squad to the 2018 Gulf Coast Premier League title.
The Manchester, England native was named to the All-GCPL and All-Eastern XI Teams and was named Port City's Overall and Attacking MVP.
Hall led Port City FC with 11 goals and two assists. Entering playoff action, he ranked fourth in the GCPL in scoring.
Returning netminder Rafael Pereira, meanwhile, earned Honorable Mention PDL All-Eastern Conference status as a member of the Western Mass Pioneers. The Lisbon, Portugal product held down a 1.45 goals against average with 52 saves.
Sophomore Federico Gutierrez was named one of the Top U20 Midfielders in the PDL after his performance this summer. Gutierrez, who joined Pereira on the Western Mass Pioneer roster, was one of 26 noted for making an impression in the 2018 PDL season.
ALUMNI UPDATE
Earlier this week, former Scarlet Knight midfielder Erik Sa signed a contract with the FC Motown Celtics of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). Sa joins former Scarlet Knights Kene Eze, Mitch Lurie and Dilly Duka on the roster.
A four-year starter during his time "On The Banks," Sa collected 27 points (8G, 11A) and finished his career ranked 21st on the all-time points leaders list.

Following Saturday's contest, Rutgers will gear up for its first Big Ten contest of the year welcoming the 2017 Big Ten regular season champions Michigan on Sept. 14. The Scarlet Knights and Wolverines kickoff at 8 p.m. following the women's soccer contest between RU and Nebraska starting at 5 p.m.
