Tennis Sweeps Towson on the Road

TOWSON, MD. – Rutgers tennis swept Towson, 7-0, on the road Friday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights claimed the doubles point and six singles for the victory.
"We came out today with a lot of energy. I think that really set the tone right from first point in doubles and then it transitioned into singles," said sophomore Isabelle Da Silva. "Our sweep win today was really great for our confidence leading to our upcoming Big Ten season. Everyone came out playing to win and that's exactly the attitude we need moving forward."
RU improved to 6-2 overall, while TU fell to 2-7 on the year.
DOUBLES PLAY
The duo if junior Jaci Cochrane and freshman Sydney Kaplan opened the contest for RU with a win at the No. 2 doubles spot, posting a 6-2 victory over TU's Themis Haliou and Lucy Gloninger.
At the No. 3 spot, the pair of freshmen Kristiana Zahare and Da Silva then secured the team point, topping the Tigers' Jessica Assenmacher and Phoebe Collins by a score of 6-2.
Junior Kat Muzik and Tess Fisher also added a win at the No. 1 spot, moving to 4-2 overall as a pair in doubles action this year.
SINGLES PLAY
Zahare transitioned the momentum into singles play, starting things off with a strong 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 6 singles spot over Claire Bede.
Kaplan followed at the No. 3 spot with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Jane Shusterman.
At the No. 4 position, Cochrane then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Amelia Lawson. It marked the third match this season the junior has clinched for RU.
Muzik returned to the win column, defeating Alexa Martinez at the No. 1 spot by a score of 6-0, 6-4.
Fisher followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot, as Da Silva secured the sweep with a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 win at the No. 5 spot.
