Brito reaches base three times

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Rutgers baseball (17-23, 7-7) scored first in the third inning, but No. 30 Michigan (30-11, 10-3) answered in the bottom half on the way to a 10-1 victory Saturday at Fisher Stadium.

"Our defense let us down today," head coach Joe Litterio said. "We took the lead, but an error started the next inning before a two-run homer. That took away our early momentum. You can't give good teams extra outs."

Junior Kevin Blum hit a leadoff single in the third, with sophomore Mike Nyisztor laying down a sacrifice bunt. After a pop out, freshman Chris Brito connected for a two-out RBI single to center field. Brito also walked twice in the game to reach 3-of-4 times. The Scarlet Knights left seven on base in the first five innings.

Michigan countered by plating four in the bottom of the third. An error on the first pitch of the inning preceded a two-run homer by Jordan Brewer. Three unearned runs ended up crossing in the frame. The Wolverines tacked on three in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Junior Tommy Genuario surrendered only two hits and two earned runs over five-plus innings in his fifth start of the season. The right-hander now owns an ERA of 2.75.

Tommy Henry earned the win for the Wolverines with one run allowed and five strikeouts over six innings. Michigan's first four hits all went for RBIs as the team is currently in first place in the Big Ten standings.
