Track and Field Shines At PSU Tri Meet

Van Note adds school record in shot put, Abrille posts program-best mark in pole vault
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Rutgers track and field competed in its third meet of the indoor season, traveling to the PSU Tri Meet on Saturday, Feb. 6. The Scarlet Knights earned a pair of school records on the women's side, in a meet that included Maryland and host Penn State.
Sophomore Jasmine Van Note won the shot put and established a school record with a throw of 15.35m (50' 4.5"). Freshman Ka'Leila Abrille set a school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.86m (12' 8") to place third.
As a program, Rutgers collected eight first-place finishes and a total of 20 performances in the top three.
Junior Courteney Campbell turned in a win for RU in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.72m (5' 7.75), while senior Alivia Ash tied for second with the same height (1.72m, 5' 7.75").
Sophomore Reanda Richards and freshman Alexandria Yarbrough went 1-3 in the 400-meter with Richards winning the event with a time of 55.40, followed by Yarbrough in third in 56.84. In her first appearance for the Scarlet Knights this indoor season, freshman Dennisha Page won the 60-meter with a time of 7.58.
Senior Stephanie Mauer gave the Scarlet Knights another victory, winning the 3,000-meter with a time of 10.22.33. In the 800-meter, sophomore Erin Bertscha finished runner up, clocking a second-place time of 2:18.24, while freshman Angela Kearsley took third in 2:20.47. The 4x400-meter relay team of Richards, Yarbrough and sophomores Mackenzie Prezume and Brooke Riedy finished second with a time of 3:51.06
In the men's track events, junior Taj Burgess won the 400-meter in 46.76, followed by sophomore Nadale Buntin who took second in 47.98. The pair joined juniors Edwyn Pierre and Boaz Madeus to win the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:12.32. Pierre also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.12, while sophomore Andrew Daniluk placed third in 8.46.
Junior Semaj Willis won the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.06m (6' 9"), while freshman Nico Morales placed third in the pole vault with a height of 4.66m (15' 3.5"). Junior Qayyim Ali took second in the long jump, recording leap of 7.06m (23' 2"). Ali also finished third in the high jump with a mark of 2.06m (6' 9"). Wrapping up the top performances in the field events on the men's side was Adam Hunt who placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.55m (54' 3.75").
Rutgers track and field will split the program the following week sending a group of student-athletes to the Hawkeye B1G Invitational in Iowa City and the Spire Institute Open in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 13.
