Teller Leads Baseball to Series Win at No. 17 Michigan

Lasko lifts ninth homer of the season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Brent Teller took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Ryan Lasko lifted his ninth homer of the season to help Rutgers baseball (14-13) secure the rubber game over No. 17 Michigan (19-9), 3-2, Sunday at Fisher Stadium. The Scarlet Knights have now won their last three road weekends and took a series against the Wolverines for the first time since joining the Big Ten.

"Brent pitched around errors in the first inning, and that was huge," head coach Steve Owens said. "That could've turned there and then he pitched awesome the rest of the day. Michigan is a very disciplined hitting team and walk a lot. It was a tremendous performance."

Working a career-high 7.1 innings, Teller faced a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the first after a walk and two errors. However, he recorded a force at home, a strikeout and fly ball to escape unharmed. The right-hander built from there to retire 13 batters in a row at one point, carrying a no-hitter with one out in the seventh. Overall, Teller allowed just two hits, two runs, two walks and struck out eight for the win.

Justin Sinibaldi came in with one on and one out in the eighth, and kept a one-run lead. The rookie then worked around a one-out single to hurl a scoreless ninth and earn his first collegiate save.

"We finally came out on the right end of a hard-fought, close battle," Owens said. "We gave the ball to a freshman at the end, who we trust. Justin got a lot of weak contact for the save."

Offensively, Lasko crushed his ninth homer of the season, a two-run shot, to put RU on top. Kevin Welsh delivered a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Mike Nyisztor reached all four times with three hits, while Peter Serruto boarded on two hits and a walk.

"Winning a series is really difficult, and winning a series against a nationally-ranked team on the road requires us to play at a high level," Owens said. "This is a confidence builder for our program. We are getting better, the kids are working hard and we will build on this and move on to next week."

It marked Rutgers' first series win over a ranked Big Ten opponent since taking 2-of-3 at home versus No. 13 Iowa to end the 2015 season.
