Scarlet Knights’ 188 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars Shatters School Record

Previous high for the conference academic distinction was 126 in 2019-20
ROSEMONT, Ill. – A school-record 188 Rutgers University student-athletes were recognized by the Big Ten Conference as 2020-21 Distinguished Scholars on Tuesday. Rutgers has set a school record in number of Big Ten Distinguished Scholars each year during its six-year membership in the conference, topping its previous best mark of 126 from 2019-20.
Fifty-three Scarlet Knights carded a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2020-21 academic year. Since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15, the Scarlet Knights have combined to earn 679 Distinguished Scholar honors.
Established in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program, Distinguished Scholars must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year.
The announcement follows a school-record 376 student-athletes earning Academic All-Big Ten honors in 20-21, comprised of 194 in the spring, 59 in the winter and 123 in the fall. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.
