Cross Country Concludes Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. ā Rutgers cross country completed the 52nd edition of the Paul Short Run on Friday, Oct. 2 at Lehigh's Goodman Campus Course. Both squads battled unseasonably warm conditions as the remainder of the October races was cancelled due to heat.

"It was a rough one out there for us today," said Nicol Starkes, associate head coach. "Conditions were tough and we know where we can look to improve. We are looking forward to bouncing back and previewing the Big Ten course in Wisconsin next weekend."

The women were led by Lorena David and Kelseigh O'Neil who finished in 62nd and 63rd, respectively. David clocked a time of 21:45.3, followed a second later by O'Neil in 21:46.1. Also scoring for the Scarlet Knights was Molly Domurat who placed 79th in 21:56.8, while Maeli Gleason finished 92nd with a time of 22:04.8 and Sofia Condron rounded out the group in 22:35.1 (144th).

Micah Lawson led the group on the men's side, finishing 32nd overall in a field of more than 300 runners. Lawson, a preseason Big Ten Runner to Watch, posted a time of 24:44.8 on the 8K course. Ryan Smith was the next men's runner to cross the finish line for RU as he ran a time of 25:59.9 (157th), followed by Gavin Rossi in 26:06.6 (174th), Blake Sealy in 26:11.9 (183rd) and Sean Matthews in 26:17.4 (191st).

As a team, Rutgers finished 15th overall out of 37 schools on the women's side. The men's squad placed 26th (out of 35) in the team standings.

The Scarlet Knights will travel to Wisconsin next week for the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Zimmer Championship Course, site of this year's Big Ten Championships at the end of the month.
