PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball fell to UConn by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Bainton Field.

The Scarlet Knights (22-23) mounted a late comeback, but the Huskies (26-20) were able to strand the go-ahead run on base in the ninth to hold on for the win.

Facing a 5-2 deficit in the seventh, RU scored one in the seventh and one in the eighth to make it a one-run game.

In the bottom of the ninth, Gabriel Rivera led off with a single – one of his three hits on the day. A double-play cleared the bases before back-to-back singles from Yomar Carreras and Ryan Jaros. With Jaros representing the winning run on first, a strikeout would extinguish the rally and end the game.

Rivera's strong day at the play included an RBI double in the fifth to get the Scarlet Knights on the board, as he collected a three-hit game and raised his batting average to .333 on the season.

Charlie Meglio also had a three-hit day, while Ryan Jaros picked up two hits with a double and Chase Krewson added another two hits to his ledger.

Dallin Harrison provided a strong start on the mound, serving as the opener on a bullpen day. He pitched two scoreless innings, striking out a pair with just one hit allowed. Finn Haines provided a scoreless inning of relief in the third.

In the top of the fourth, UConn hit a three-run home run with two outs to jump ahead 3-0. While Rivera's RBI double and an RBI groundout made it 3-2 in the fifth, the Huskies answered back in the seventh on a solo homer and RBI single to extend the lead at that point to 5-2, which would prove to be the difference.

Rutgers is back in action this weekend on the road against No. 10 USC, with game one set for 9:30 p.m. ET on Friday night.
