
#8 Nebraska Takes Finale From Softball

LINCOLN, Neb. – Rutgers went in front early on eighth-ranked Nebraska on Riley Hwang's sixth home run of the season, but the host Cornhuskers came back with a big first at-bat en route to the 11-5 series finale victory.
The loss dropped the Scarlet Knights to 18-21 overall and 3-12 in the Big Ten.

- Sophomore Riley Hwang gave Rutgers an early 1-0 edge two batters into the game on her sixth home run of the year. Senior Mia Mitchell also captured a solo home run for her fourth of the season. It marked the ninth game this year RU has connected for multiple long balls in a game.
- Hwang ended the day with two runs scored.
- Freshman Eva Garofalo added an RBI walk in RU's two-run first inning.
- Sophomore Bailey Burtis collected an RBI double and a run.and classmate Samantha Delhoyo was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Sophomore Kassandra Gewecke fell to 5-10 in the start.

- After a half inning of play, Rutgers led 2-0. Riley Hwang powered her 1-1 pitch over the wall to left and the bases were then loaded for Eva Garofalo to collect the RBI walk.
- Nebraska, however, countered with seven runs on five hits in the bottom half. The bases were loaded for an Ava Kuszak base hit to left and a Kacie Hoffmann fielder's choice. The Cornhuskers were on the corners for an Alexis Jensen RBI single thru the right side and the bases were loaded to send another run in on Jesse Farrell's fielder's choice. Lauren Camenzind also struck with a three-run home for the Huskers to lead 7-2 after one complete inning.
- Sam Delhoyo added a run for the Scarlet Knights in the second. She led off with a single and got to the opposite corner on Sam Rowher's double to left. Nebraska attempted the pickoff at third, but Delhoyo came home as the throw went into the outfield.
- Mia Mitchell further cut into the deficit with a leadoff home run in the third for RU to trail 7-4.
- Nebraska added a run in the bottom half off a walk and a pair of hits. Hannah Coor led off with a walk and later scored on a Kuszak double to left for an 8-4 lead.
- It was run-for-run again in the fourth. Hwang reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a Baileigh Burtis double to right with RU behind 8-5.
- The Cornhuskers added some cushion in the fifth on a sac fly and five hits. Jordy Frahm led off with a triple and plated on a Coor sac fly. Four-straight base hits pushed across two runs with RBI singles to Bella Bacon and Samantha Bland to extend Nebraska's advantage to 11-5.
