Jamaal Westerman

Jamaal Westerman is in his fourth season on the Scarlet Knights’ staff and second as assistant strength and conditioning coach. He played in 50 games for Rutgers from 2005-08 before seeing action in 58 NFL contests (2009-13) and 60 CFL games (2015-18). He ranks third in RU history with 26 career sacks.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, later moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and playing high school football at Notre Dame Academic in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Westerman was a two-time All-Big East selection and part of four RU teams that appeared in bowl games. That included traveling back to Canada for the 2008 International Bowl, a 52-30 victory over Ball State.

Overall, Westerman recorded 141 collegiate tackles as a defensive end with 44.5 tackles-for-loss, 26 sacks, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks. He earned the team’s David Bender Award in 2008.

Westerman was signed by the New York Jets in 2009 and would also appear with the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. In the CFL, Westerman posted 17 sacks with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to earn all-star status.
