Cochrane Moves to Finals, Tennis Totals Seven Saturday Wins at Navy

Muzik and Lee set to square off in consolation singles final on Sunday
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Oct. 7, 2017) – Rutgers tennis will be well represented on the final day of Navy's Blue & Gold Invitational on Sunday as sophomore Jaci Cochrane advanced to the Singles "C" Flight championship with two wins on Saturday, while senior Chloe Lee, sophomore Kat Muzik and freshman Maya Jacobs will all play in singles consolation finals.
Cochrane spoiled Navy's Amanda Cyr's home court advantage in the quarterfinals, claiming the match in a 10-4 superbreaker after trading 6-4 scores in the first two sets. Cochrane booked her trip to the final with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 triumph over UConn's Zaina Zaki. The Rutgers sophomore, who now stands at 4-2 in singles action this season, will meet another Husky, Jacque Lazaro, in Sunday's final.
Lazaro punched her ticket with the help of a quarterfinal win over Rutgers freshman Isabelle Da Silva, 6-2, 6-2.
Jacobs will play in the Singles "A" Flight consolation final following a pair of wins on Saturday, bringing her season record to a team-best 5-1. Jacobs topped Sydney Green of George Mason (8-6) and Towson's Nicole Shakhnazarova in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-3), in a pair of pro-sets. The Rutgers rookie will face Nathalie Finch from Howard on Sunday.
Muzik dropped a "B" Flight quarterfinal match in a 10-2 superbreaker to Navy's Carlee Conway, with Muzik taking the first set 6-2 and losing the second 7-5. She went on to win two consolation matches, 8-2 and 9-7, over opponents from Seton Hall and UConn, respectively, to advance to the consolation final.
Senior teammate, Lee, will meet her in that match after she advanced via a walkover and an overtime tiebreak win over Towson's Alexa Martinez by a score of 9-8 (10-8).
Day 3 will resume at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8 from the U.S. Naval Academy.
