Rutgers Athletics Posts Strong Graduation Success Rate

PISCATAWAY, N.J.- Rutgers Athletics continued a streak of strong performances in Graduation Success Rate (GSR) as Rutgers received an overall GSR of 91 as the NCAA released its annual report. For the 15th consecutive year, Rutgers earned an overall rate of 85 or above. The most recent cohort includes students who entered college from 2014-17 as the Scarlet Knights have recorded an overall GSR of 90-plus in each of the past five years.

All 20 programs recorded a GSR score that was tied or surpassed the federal rate (Division I) within their respective sports in this year's report. Fourteen programs earned a score of 91 or better, while nine Rutgers programs earned a perfect 100 score: men's golf, wrestling, women's basketball, gymnastics, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's swimming and diving and women's tennis. Eighteen out of 20 programs earned a score of 84 or better.

Gymnastics has recorded a 100 in every NCAA report to date, marking 19-straight years. Women's lacrosse (10), women's basketball and swimming and diving (eight) and women's tennis (six) have also maintained perfect rates. Men's golf posted its fourth-straight 100.

The wrestling and softball programs set a program record by scoring 100 for the first time. Men's lacrosse also equaled its program record with a 97. Volleyball recorded its first 100 score in 11 years. Thirteen programs (five men's teams and eight women's teams) bettered or equaled last year's scores.

Each year, the NCAA publicly announces the GSR of all Division I institutions. This year's numbers reflect an average for students who entered college from 2014-17. The GSR begins with the federal cohort and adds transfer students, mid-year enrollees, and non-scholarship students (in specified cases) to the sample. Student-athletes who leave an institution while in good academic standing before exhausting athletics eligibility are removed from the cohort of their initial institution. This rate provides a more complete and accurate look at actual student-athlete success by taking into account the full variety of participants in Division I athletics and tracking their academic outcomes.
