Baseball Drops Game Two to Nebraska

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball dropped game two of its series to Nebraska, falling by a score of 16-1 at Bainton Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Scarlet Knights (21-13, 2-6) went down 5-0 in the third inning and the Cornhuskers (23-9, 6-2) kept pouring it on to even the series heading into Sunday's rubber game.

After two scoreless frames to start the game, Nebraska broke out for five runs in the third. A wild pitch and two-run single made it 3-0 before a two-run home run made it 5-0. The Cornhuskers would score in each of the next five innings to stretch their lead to 11-0. After a scoreless seventh, a five-spot in the top of the eighth would make it 16-0 in favor of the visitors.

RU would get on the board in the bottom of the eighth on a fielder's choice, with Trevor Cohen scoring on the play.

Gavin Stellpflug pitched a scoreless ninth for the Scarlet Knights, but the offense was held off the board in the bottom half to end the game.

The series finale between Rutgers and Nebraska is set for 12 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network.
