Baseball Picks Up Road Win Over Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Rutgers baseball used a strong day on the mound and timely hitting to pick up an 8-1 road victory against Seton Hall on Tuesday afternoon.

The Scarlet Knights (20-12) got another strong start from Jordan Falco and used three RBI days from Pete Durocher and Ty Doucette to win their second straight against the Pirates (17-15).

Jordan Falco pitched 4.2 innings for RU, giving up just one run on five hits, striking out three and walking just one.

Rutgers struck early with a two-out rally in the second. Jackson Natili was hit by a pitch and Johnny Volpe walked to set up Cameron Love, who singled into left to score Natili and make it 1-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Scarlet Knights loaded the bases with one out and Durocher delivered the early big blow, tripling off the wall in left field to clear the bases and give RU a 4-0 lead.

Ty Doucette helped Rutgers hang another crooked number in the top of the seventh when he launched a three-run home run over the scoreboard in right. The no-doubter was Doucette's sixth home run of the season and he bumped up his season RBI total to 26 with the blast.

A double-steal scored another in the eighth to extend the RU lead to 8-1, which held as the final score.

Sonny Fauci earned the win after getting the final out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sam Portnoy gave Rutgers two scoreless frames out of the bullpen, striking out one batter and allowing no hits or walks.

Ethan Bowen pitched a scoreless eighth and got the first two outs of the ninth before making way for Joey DeChiaro, who punctuated the victory with a strikeout.

Rutgers returns to action for a three-game series against Nebraska at Bainton Field, with game one set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
