
Baseball Loses Game 1 to Maryland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Maryland on Friday night at Bainton Field.
The Scarlet Knights (25-20, 3-13) were unable to overcome a four-run sixth inning from the Terrapins (30-17, 9-10), who then held on late to secure the win.
Rutgers was able to get on the board in the top of the first when Ty Doucette drove in Josh Kuroda-Grauer with an RBI single.
After being held off the scoreboard for the first five innings, Maryland broke out for four runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run double, RBI groundout and sac fly and took a 4-1 lead.
RU responded in the seventh when Doucette drove in two more with a double into the left field corner, making it a 4-3 game.
While the Scarlet Knights were able to get the tying run on base in the ninth, the game ended on a flyout to right.
Rutgers and Maryland will wrap up their series with a Saturday doubleheader, with game one set for 12 p.m. on Big Ten Network. Game two will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
