PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's lacrosse had an offensive outburst on Tuesday afternoon for a midweek week. The Scarlet Knights scored a season-high amount of goals in a 21-11 win over St. John's.
Colin Kurdyla (six points) and
Colin Kelly each scored four goals to lead RU.
Shane Murphy (3) and
Brady Kurdyla (2) also had multi-goal games. Murphy and
Haydn Sommer each had three assists.
"It was nice to see
Colin Kelly and
Colin Kurdyla have big games for us," head coach
Brian Brecht said. "I was happy with the way we scored, doing so in a lot of different situations. I was happy with the overall play of our team from offense to defense, to the faceoff and wing play. It's still early and we'll keep growing as a team. I was happy with our growth and development today."
RU led 48-33 in shots and 45-22 in ground balls.
Matthew Paolatto was 16-of-25 on faceoffs.
Cardin Stoller had 11 saves and allowed just eight goals.
After the first 17 minutes of the game, St. John's led 4-3. The home team then ran off a 9-goal run to take command of the game. Rutgers led 11-4 at halftime and 18-8 after three quarters.
RU is back home on Saturday to host No. 19 UMass.
