ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Rutgers gymnastics has unofficially qualified for its first NCAA Regional Championships in 11 years by posting its best Big Ten Championships score in program history with a 196.225 on Friday night at the Crisler Center.
Â
College Gym News (CGN) tracks live National Qualifying Score calculations, which are used to determine the top 36 for NCAA Regional Championships selection.
CGN has Rutgers locking in a qualifying spot with its Big Ten Championships score, which will be made official on Monday during the NCAA Selection Show.
Â
Gabrielle Dildy anchored beam for the Scarlet Knights in their final rotation. Her 9.850 score, while not a school record or career-high, caused an eruption of joy from the Rutgers gymnasts after Dildy's dismount stick.
Â
"The energy from the team was incredible today," Dildy said. "We all knew we needed a 196.150 in order to make it to regionals but everyone was just focused on having fun and hitting our routines. I didn't know what I needed to score for us to make it at the end, I was just determined to hit a solid beam routine. We all stayed in our team bubble and weren't worried about anything else but supporting each other."
Â
The score locked in the 196.225 for Rutgers, its best at the Big Ten Championships in its 11th trip to the conference meet. It surpassed its previous best of 195.750 set in 2022. Rutgers finished in second at the Session I quad of the Big Ten Championships ahead of Nebraska (196.175) and Washington (196.125), while behind Ohio State (196.250) by just .025.
Â
Rutgers' third rotation on bars set the stage for the beam dramatics. The bar squad, including four freshmen, combined for a 49.275, tied for the fourth-highest score in program history. All five scorers were at 9.825 or above, led by matching 9.875's from
Delaney Adrian and
Avery Balser.
Keeley Smith and
Reagan Schenkel pitched in 9.850's after
Donna Uhlenberg opened with a 9.825.
CGN calculations had Rutgers needing at least a 49 on beam to secure a Regional spot in its final rotation. They scored a 49.075 with Dildy's anchoring 9.850, a career-high 9.875 from Adrian, a 9.800 from
Matis Rains, and
Jacqueline Manifold and
Rachael Riley scoring 9.775's.
Â
Dildy was solid throughout the gym on Friday with a 9.800 on vault and 9.850 on floor to go with her regional-clinching beam score. Adrian was fourth in Session I in the all-around with a 39.275.
Â
Rutgers last qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in 2014. The Scarlet Knights will look to hear their name called during the NCAA Selection Show on Mon., March 24 at noon on ESPNU.
