Oregon Sweeps Series With Softball

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball dropped game two of the two-game series with No. 6 Oregon on Saturday at the RU Softball Complex as the Ducks bested the Scarlet Knights 21-2.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Oregon's day began with a two-run home from from Rylee McCoy to left field.
  • The Ducks took a 7-0 lead in the third off six hits and an error. McCoy started off the scoring again with an RBI hit while Braiesey Rosa pushed across two and Stefini Ma'ake added an RBI base hit as Oregon opened the inning with singles on six of its first seven batters of the inning. Kaylyn Jones later added a sac fly.
  • Rutgers got onto the scoreboard by nearly hitting the scoreboard in the third. Baileigh Burtis reached on with a single to center and scored as LA Matthews went over the wall in right just shy of the scoreboard for her third home run of the year. Matthews' long ball cut RU's deficit to 7-2.
  • Oregon responded with two runs of their own in the fourth. McCoy added her second home run of the day, a solo shot to center. Kedre Luschar followed with a double and scored on a Dezianna Patmon single thru the right side extending the Ducks advantage to 9-2.
  • The sixth-ranked Ducks took flight in the fifth with 12 runs on eight hits, including home runs from Paige Sinicki, Ma'ake, Remming Hewitt and Kedre Luschar. Also contributing to the scoring for Oregon were Rosa with sac fly and RBI single from Abby Mulvey.
UP NEXT
Rutgers is back in action next weekend at Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions in a three-game series on April 4-6.
