SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Rutgers softball fell in the first of two mid-week meetings with the Seton Hall Pirates on Tuesday afternoon. In a game moved up a day due to weather, the Scarlet Knights fell 4-2 at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field.

- Graduate student LA Matthews delivered two RBIs, while senior Jillian Anderson was 2-for-3, including a triple, with a run scored.
- Redshirt sophomore Gaelen Kelly collected a double and scored a run.
- Freshman Kelsey Hoekstra got the start and gave up four runs on five hits in two innings in the loss. Senior Laurelai DePew finished out the game going four innings with two hits and a trio of strikeouts.

- Both squads scored a run in the first inning. The contest opened with a Jillian Anderson triple and the Scarlet Knight scoring on a sac fly from LA Matthews to right field. Â Seton Hall, meanwhile, loaded the bases with two singles and a hit batter leading to an RBI single from Olivia Gilbert.
- Rutgers went back in front in the top of the third. Gaelen Kelly led off with a double and was safe at home on a Hailey Stripling fielder's choice to give RU a 2-1 edge.
- The Pirates, however, used back-to-back home runs to go ahead. Kelsey Carr delivered a two-run shot, followed by a solo long ball by Hannah Alexander.
Rutgers softball heads to the Bob Heck Memorial hosted by Georgia State in Decatur, Georgia, to face the host Panthers along with North Dakota, West Georgia, and Colgate.
