PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball dropped Sunday's series finale with Northwestern as the Wildcats blanked the Scarlet Knights, 11-0, at the RU Softball Complex.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Senior Laurelai DePew got the start and was the pitcher of record going 2.2 innings and allowing one earned run on six hits. Freshman Kelsey Hoekstra and senior Georgia Ingle also saw time in the circle. Hoekstra threw one inning giving up four hits and no earned runs. Ingle tossed 1.1 innings with one run on two hits along with a strikeout.
• Graduate student LA Matthews generated RU's lone hit with a chopper down the first base line and beating out a diving tag at the base.

THE RUNDOWN

• Wildcats plated their first run in the top of the second as Bridget Donahey's score counted on a dropped ball at the plate on the steal.
• Northwestern sent three more across in the third on five straight hits. Nader connected on a solo home run to right while Kansas Robinson and Izzy Cunnea both captured RBI singles.
• Six runs scored for the visitors in the fourth. Kaylie Avvisato kicked off the scoring with sac fly with Robinson following with an RBI double. Both Emma Raye and Ayana Lindsey registered a pair of RBIs on a single to center and a double to center, respectively.
• The Wildcats added their final run of the afternoon with Hannah Cushing stealing home in the fifth.

UP NEXT

The Rutgers softball team's homestand continues next week with four games. RU will host LIU in nonconference action on Wednesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. before welcoming Illinois for the final Big Ten home series. The updated series schedule with the Fighting Illinois is Friday, April 25 at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. and Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
 
Saturday, April 26 will be Rutgers Softball Camper Appreciation Day with all former individual and team campers invited. Team camp attendees are asked to RSVP their team to Victoria Velez at v.velez@scarletknights.com.

Sunday, April 27 will be Senior Day with Jillian Anderson, Laurelai DePew, Georgia Ingle and LA Matthews honored following the game.
