Men’s Lacrosse Hires Scott Bieda as Assistant Coach

RU Alumn, the 2016 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Joins Alma Matter as Offensive Coordinator after Nine Seasons Coaching in Division I

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse has hired program alumn Scott Bieda as the team's newest assistant coach. The 2016 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year joins the coaching staff and will serve as the program's offensive coordinator following nine seasons coaching at Michigan and Lafayette.

"I'm extremely excited to welcome Scott back home to "The Banks", head coach Brian Brecht said. "As a student-athlete Scott was very impactful throughout his playing career as a Scarlet Knight both on the field and in and around our campus community. I am very proud of the successes he has had as a coach, and I look forward to having him back at Rutgers to join our staff.  He has done a tremendous job mentoring and developing his players, and I look forward to him working with our current team. We have a great group of players, both currently in our program as well as coming into our locker room that I feel will benefit immensely from Scott's mentoring. I look forward to seeing their growth as student-athletes here at Rutgers."

Bieda spent three seasons with Michigan to help their offense to great success. In his first season in 2023, the Wolverine offense set a program record in goals, assists and points, winning the Big Ten Tournament to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. In Bieda's second season in Ann Arbor, U-M had its second most points in program history, winning 10 games and another Big Ten Tournament title. In 2025, Bieda mentored First Team All-Big Ten selection Ryan Cohen, who become the program's all-time assist leader. He also guided Michigan's all-time point leader Michael Boehm, who along with Cohen was recognized as an All-American.

Bieda came to Ann Arbor after spending the prior six seasons at Lafayette College, where he was the offensive coordinator for the final four seasons. The Leopards averaged 12.07 goals per game in 2022, while Bieda helped Peter Lehman to Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 and second team all-conference honors in 2022.

"I'm extremely honored and grateful to be returning back to my alma matter and the proud tradition of Rutgers lacrosse," Bieda said. "I want to first take a second and thank Michigan for a great three years and thanks to Michigan head coach Kevin Conry for taking a chance on me. With that said, I am thrilled to bring my family back home to New Jersey where my career began. I want to thank Matthew Colgiavanni for his unwavering support during the process. I want to thank Coach Brecht for his belief in me since day one and for this incredible opportunity. I am excited for a chance to learn from and grow alongside my fellow Rutgers coaches in Jimmy Ryan and Drake Porter. Rutgers has a deep-rooted tradition and a culture of excellence. I also want to recognize coach Eric Seremet for the impact he has made on this offense and team as a whole. The standard is high, and I have great respect for the foundation that has been laid. Lastly, thank you to all the alumni for their continued support through my career, I am excited to be back 'On the Banks' and I look forward to working with the incredible student athletes as we charge forward to bring Rutgers to new heights!"
