Anna Cogdell Wins Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week
Oct 19 | Field Hockey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Anna Cogdell was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced. She earned the honor following Rutgers field hockey's two wins over No. 18 Michigan (Friday) and No. 18 Michigan State (Sunday) over the weekend.
A junior, Cogdell earned her second career Big Ten weekly award, and first since her Freshman of the Week accolade in 2024. She is the fourth different Scarlet Knight to earn a Big Ten weekly award this season, joining Olivia Fraticelli (Co-Offensive), Lauren Iaccio (Freshman) and Eden Doucelin (Freshman).
Cogdell had her first career two-goal game as she scored twice in the win over No. 18 Michigan Friday, scoring both on corners. She put home the game-winner in the final seconds of overtime, beating the final buzzer to provide RU with its second ranked win of the year.
Playing between back and midfield, the native of England helped the defensive effort in limiting opponents to just two goals on nine shots across the two games. RU won 3-2 over the Wolverines and then earned a 4-0 shutout victory on Sunday over the Spartans to seal the team's Big Ten Tournament berth.
Up next, RU will hit the road this weekend for two games. On Friday, the squad plays at No. 6 Iowa, then Sunday the Scarlet Knights face No. 2 Northwestern. The team has three regular season games remaining, all against ranked teams.
