Oct 02 | Field Hockey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers field hockey hosted Penn State in the Blackout at Bauer, with a 1-0 loss to the Nittany Lions. Penn State scored a first quarter goal and it held up for the victory. Penn State improved to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the league, while Rutgers dropped to 5-6 on the year and 0-2 in Big Ten play.
The Nittany Lions scored the game's only goal twelve minutes into the contest. The Nittany Lions earned a corner and despite the initial shot being saved, Penn State's Katelyn Strawser snuck around to the back post and poked in a rebound through a group of defenders.
The Scarlet Knights pressed throughout the contest for an equalizer, with an 11-7 margin in shots on the game, including 10 in the second half. However, RU was unable to tally a goal and dropped the contest. Ā
Prior to the game, Rutgers had two recognitions at the field. The team paid tribute to Amy Lewis, the program's all-time leading scorer, who was inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday night. RU also held a moment of silence in honor of Lauren Burke Smith, an assistant coach from 2014 to 2017, who recently passed away.
Rutgers returns home on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights will host American at noon.
