Baseball Drops Game Two to Michigan State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball dropped game two of its series against Michigan State by a score of 9-3 on Saturday at Bainton Field.
The Scarlet Knights (10-8, 1-1) fell behind 8-0 early and were unable to rally against the Spartans (5-12, 1-4), who forced a rubber match Sunday afternoon.
MSU collected nine extra base-hits on the day, using four home runs, four doubles and a triple to slug its way to a victory. A solo homer in the second made it 1-0 before a triple, single and sac fly made it 5-0 in the third. Two more homers in fourth pushed the advantage to 8-0.
Back-to-back doubles from Ryan Jaros and Quinten Perilli in the fifth got RU on the board. The Spartans responded with a solo homer in the seventh to make it 9-1. While a Peyton Bonds double and Joey Erace single each scored a run in the seventh, it was too little, too late as MSU finished off the 9-3 victory.
Offensively, Trey Wells, Matt Chatelle, Ryan Jaros, Quinten Perilli and Joey Erace each collected two hits.
Jordan Saviñon (1.1), Matthew Cruz (0.2), Finn Haines (0.2) and Tyler Kane (0.2) all contributed scoreless outings of relief.
The rubber game between Rutgers and Michigan State is set for Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Bainton Field.
