Baseball Loses to St. John's

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball dropped its midweek contest to St. John's by a score of 10-5 on Tuesday night at Bainton Field.
The Scarlet Knights (20-21) took an early 4-1 lead, but the Red Storm (21-19) scored three in the fourth and three in the eighth to earn the victory.
Gabriel Rivera had another strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and pair of RBIs. Rivera had an RBI double in the first and scored on a balk to give RU the early 2-0 lead.
After SJU scored one in the second, Chase Krewson and Ryan Jaros hit back-to-back home runs to make it 4-1.
The Red Storm got one back in the third and scored three unearned in the fourth to take a 5-4 advantage.
Rivera's second RBI hit of the day was a run-scoring single to tie the game at 5-5 in the seventh.
The tie did not last for long, as St. John's scored three in the top of the eighth on a fielder's choice, sac bunt and RBI single to jump ahead 8-5. The Red Storm added two in the ninth for good measure and RU went down in order in the bottom half to end the game.
Rutgers is back in action this weekend, hosting Ohio State for three-game series, with game one set for 6 p.m. Friday.
