
Four from Men’s Lacrosse Named Scholar All-Americans by USILA

Cardin Stoller, Ben McKelvy, Ryan Splaine and Colin Kelly Recognized
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse saw four student-athletes named Scholar All-Americans by the USILA. Cardin Stoller, Ben McKelvy, Colin Kelly and Ryan Splaine were recognized by the organization. The quartet represented one all-conference selection (Stoller), one All-American (Splaine) and two Senior All-Star Game selections (McKelvy and Kelly).
Stoller was named a Second Team All-Big Ten selection. The Owings Mills, Md. native led the Big Ten with 10.47 saves per game. The Boys Latin product made 157 saves in cage for RU, with a 52.0% save percentage and 10.37 goals-against average as RU held the opposition to single-digits in seven games. The redshirt junior's 512 career saves are eighth all-time in Rutgers history. He is majoring in Communication and was on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
Splaine was named an All-American, an Honorable Mention selection by the Inside Lacrosse Media Voting. The long-stick midfielder out of Rockville, Md. and Gonzaga College HS had 41 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. He is majoring in Communication and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
McKelvy was named to the USILA Senior All-Star Game. A product of DeMatha Catholic out of Kent Island, Md., the starting defenseman had career-highs with 29 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. A starter in 45 career games with 66 career ground balls and 29 caused turnovers, the fifth-year Scarlet Knights earned a Master's in Computer and Info Science – Product Design.
Kelly was also named to the USILA Senior All-Star Game. Playing both midfield and attack, the Syracuse, N.Y. native had 20 goals and three assists, placing third on the team in goals and points. A product of Christian Brothers Academy and transfer from Canisius, where he was a two-time all-conference selection, Kelly earned his Master's at RU in Supply Chain Management after posting 37 goals across 33 games in three seasons as a Scarlet Knight.
With the addition of these four Scholar All-Americans, Rutgers now has 50 Scholar All-Americans in program history, including 46 in the past 12 years and 37 in the past six years. This is the second straight season RU has four Scholar All-Americans, the sixth straight year with at least three and the ninth year in a row with multiple scholar All-Americans.
Last season, RU had four Scholar All-Americans in Joe Juengerkes, Tommy Mendyke, Matthew Paolatto and Ben Stephanos. The year prior, RU had three Scholar All-Americans as Brandon Hund, Shane Knobloch and Ross Scott were recognized. The year prior, RU had five Scholar All-Americans (Bobby Russo, Brad Apgar, David Sprock, Jonathan Dugenio and Ross Scott). Zackary Franckowiak, Colin Kirst, Ethan Rall, Brennan Kamish, Jaryd Jean-Felix, Ronan Jacoby, Ryan Gallagher and Mitch Bartolo were all recognized as USILA Schoalr All-Americans in 2022. In 2021 Adam Charalambides, Ryan Gallagher, Jaryd Jean-Felix, Connor Kirst, Zach Masessa and Kieran Mullins all earned the accolade. In 2020, Kieran Mullins and Adam Charalambides were recognized. The 2019 group was Adam Charalambides, Mark Christiano, Max Edelmann, Garrett Michaeli and Kyle Pless. Those selections joined Christian Mazzone and Michael Rexrode (2018), Connor Murphy (2017), Scott Bieda and Zack Sikora (2016), Joe Nardella and Campbell Sode (2015), Will Mangan (2012), Brian Shemesh (2011), Jamie Lovejoy (2005) and Jeff Duca (2003).
The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
Additionally, RU posted a 3.31 team GPA in the spring semester, with 18 Dean's List selections. 27 student-athletes were named Academic All-Big Ten this spring.
