Women's Soccer Loses to Purdue

PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers women's soccer dropped a close 2-1 contest to Purdue on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights (2-3-3) led 1-0 at halftime, but the Boilermakers (8-1-1, 2-1-0) scored a pair of goals in the second half to earn the victory.
Olivia Russomanno tallied her first goal of the season for RU on a fantastic team goal in the 36th minute. Emma Johns found Patricia Tsokos on a quick passing combination before Tsokos lifted a long through ball. Russomanno one-timed a side-footed shot past the Purdue goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
RU controlled play for the rest of the first half and the majority of the second. In the 63rd minute, the Boilermakers crossed a ball into the box that was deflected out of bounds. After a short review, the referees awarded a penalty kick to Purdue, which the visitors converted to tie the game at 1-1.
Thirteen minutes later, the Boilermakers took the lead on a passing combination that finished with an attacker evading a defender in the box and finding the back of the net. After the 76th-minute tally, Purdue was able to pack it in defensively, holding the Scarlet Knights off the scoreboard to finish off the 2-1 victory.
Rutgers returns to action Thursday night when it hosts No. 21 UCLA for an 8 p.m. kick at Yurcak Field.
