CAPE COD, Mass. – Rutgers freshman Mike Diehl (Flemington, N.J.) was selected as the ECAC men’s lacrosse Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Diehl tied his season-high with two goals and added an assist in the Scarlet Knights only game of the week at Saint Joseph’s.
Diehl leads all RU freshmen and is second on the team with six goals. Additionally, the midfielder has handed out two assists, while starting all four games this season.
In each of the last two seasons, a Rutgers player has won ECAC Rookie of the Year. Diehl’s former high school teammate, Justin Pennington (Flemington, N.J.), was named the league’s top rookie in 2007 and Kory Kelly (Princeton, N.J.), who leads RU in scoring this season, was selected as Co-Rookie of the Year last spring.
Rutgers will be back in action, completing a four-game road trip Saturday at Fairfield. The ECAC opener for both teams will start at 1 p.m.
