HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (June 24, 2012) – Former Rutgers men’s lacrosse midfielder and co-captain Will Mangan started his professional career with Major League Lacrosse’s Long Island Lizards on an emphatic note, scoring five points off two goals and three assists to earn Player of the Game honors in a 14-8 win over Denver on Saturday at Shuart Stadium. The 2012 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, Mangan picked up where he left off with the Scarlet Knights, as the midfielder scored multiple points in 12-of-15 games in his final RU season.
Mangan notched the first goal of the contest on an unassisted play with only 41 seconds having elapsed from the game clock. He then added assists in the second (0:35) and third (7:20) quarters. Mangan helped the Lizards close out the Outlaws with an unassisted goal 33 seconds into the fourth quarter and a later assist as Long Island shut out Denver 7-0 in the game’s final period.
The former Scarlet Knight recently finished one of the most decorated seasons in program history as he earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Honorable Mention and Scholar All-America accolades, All-BIG EAST First Team recognition and participated in the USILA/LaxWorld North-South Classic. He was picked up off the MLL’s waiver wire by the Lizards on June 6.
Former Rutgers players Chris Mattes and Justin Pennington played opposite Mangan for the Denver squad.
