Men’s Lacrosse to Host Fall Scrimmages
Oct 10 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse will host a fall tri-scrimmage this weekend, welcoming UMass and Loyola on Saturday at the F3 Practice Field. The Scarlet Knights will first face UMass at 10 a.m., then match up against Loyola at 2 p.m. In between, the Minutemen and Greyhounds will play at noon.
Rutgers enters the 2017-18 campaign with high expectations, coming off of a 10-4 season in 2017 that concluded with a landmark victory over No. 3 Ohio State. RU will be led by 13 seniors this season, including returning All-Americans in defenseman Michael Rexrode and attackman Jules Heningburg, as well as all Big Ten goalkeeper Max Edelmann.
The scrimmage will be free and open to the public. Parking will be available in the yellow lot.
In culmination with the scrimmage, Rutgers is doing its annual fundraiser for the Vs. Cancer Foundation. The team is raising money to fight pediatric cancer. Donations to the team's fundraiser can be made here. The Scarlet Knights have joined forces with UMass each fall to help combat childhood cancer and raise money for cancer research efforts. The team is also very active throughout the year to support this cause, visiting patients locally at St. Peter's Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.
UMass went 7-9 last season. The team advanced to the CAA Championship game, falling to an eventual NCAA Final Four team in Towson.
Loyola was 11-5 last season, winning the Patriot League to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. They return First Team All-American and Tewaaraton Finalist attackman Pat Spencer, who recorded 83 points in 2017.
The tri-scrimmage this weekend kicks off a packed two-week stretch for the men's lacrosse program. The following weekend will be Alumni Weekend, with alumni welcomed back for a celebration that includes the Hall of Fame Dinner on Friday, October 20, where Tom Hayes and Bob Vencak will be inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame. Saturday is the Homecoming football game, with the Hall of Fame honorees recognized at halftime and RU hosting alumni from the AD Suite and Party Deck. On Sunday, the team will host its annual Alumni Game.
