Scarlet Knights defeat Pirates by a score of 6-1

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers tennis cruised to its fourth consecutive victory with a 6-1 win over in-state foe Seton Hall on Saturday night at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The Scarlet Knights secured the doubles point and five singles matchups to top the Pirates.

"Now that we are 4-0, this is a great confidence booster for us. We are doing a great job of staying diligent," said freshman Maya Jacobs. "We have played some tough teams that are really hard fighters. When we are staying on our game and taking care of business, it gives us the confidence to go against tough teams that we have in our future."

RU improved to an overall record of 4-0, while SHU fell to a mark of 1-3 on the year.

Rutgers claimed the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. In the No. 1 spot, senior Mingxiu Du and sophomore Kat Muzik defeated Seton Hall's Melody Taal and Luize Strike by a score of 6-2, improving to a record of 3-1 as a duo in dual action.

Sophomore Jaci Cochrane and Jacobs captured the doubles point for RU with a win over SHU's Anicka Fajnorova and Michal Matson by a margin of 6-4, moving to 3-0 as a pair in duals.

Jacobs opened singles play with a win at the No. 5 spot over the Pirates' Matson by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Muzik followed with a victory at the No. 3 position, defeating Fajnorova by a mark of 6-4, 6-3.

In the No. 4 position, Cochrane clinched the match for RU, posting a 6-3, 6-4 win over Cerpina.

Jacobs, Muzik, and Cochrane all improved to dual records of 4-0 in singles this season.

Freshman Isabelle Da Silva and senior Chloe Lee rallied from first set losses to claim wins in the No. 6 and No. 2 positions, respectively, to close out the match for RU.
