EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers tennis suffered a setback to Purdue on Friday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The Boilermakers edged the Scarlet Knights for the doubles point before taking six singles victories for the win.
Rutgers and Purdue opened the match in a tight battle in doubles action. After the Boilermakers earned a win at the No. 2 spot, the duo of seniors Lee Levy and Chloe Lee captured a win of their own over Alex Sabe and Seira Shimizu at the No. 3 spot to balance the bout.
At the No. 1 position, seniors Mingxiu Du and Kat Muzik took Purdue's Silvia Ambrosio and Caitlin Calkins to the brink. The Boilermakers, however, escaped with a 7-6 (6) victory to take the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage in the match.
From there, the scores and leads would sway in various matchups in singles play. Ultimately, Purdue used its momentum from the doubles fight to take the match.
