No. 21 Baseball Welcomes No. 22 Maryland for Three-Game Series

Scarlet Knights, Terrapins are two highest-ranked Big Ten teams
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 7, 2022) – The No. 21 Rutgers baseball team is set for its biggest series to date, taking on No. 22 Maryland in a three-game series at Bainton Field. After rain cancelled games Friday and Saturday, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. before the series finale at 1 p.m. on Monday.
Rutgers currently ranks first among Big Ten teams in batting average (.315), doubles (109), doubles/game (2.37), fielding percentage (.980), hits (538), OBP (.414), runs (424), runs/game (9.2) and shutouts (4). RU's marks of batting average (8th), doubles (6th), ERA (8th), hits (2nd), runs (6th), runs/game (8th) and W/L percentage (.783, 8th) are all top 10 in the nation.
LAST TIME OUT
• Rutgers went 3-1 in week 11, picking up a road sweep over Ohio State over the weekend before dropping a midweek game at Seton Hall
• Ryan Lasko hit five home runs in the series over the Buckeyes and swept National Player of the Week honors while also being named Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time this season.
• Dale Stanavich picked up his ninth and 10th saves, tying the Big Ten lead. Both saves were at least four-out efforts.
• Jared Kollar (7-1), Nathan Florence (5-1) and Ben Gorski (4-0) picked up the wins on the mound.
HITTING
• The Scarlet Knights continue to be an offensive machine under hitting coach Kyle Pettoruto.
• Rutgers' team batting average of .315 is 15 points higher than the next-best Big Ten team (Maryland .300).
• Seven different qualified (2 PA/G) Scarlet Knights are batting over .300. Nine different players have at least 25 RBI on the season
• Nick Cimillo leads the Big Ten with a .497 OBP, .713 SLG% and 1.200 OPS. He was recently named Second Team Midseason All-America by Perfect Game
• Ryan Lasko (72) and Danny DiGeorgio (63) are first and tied-second in the Big Ten in hits.
• Chris Brito (55) and Tony Santa Maria (52) are first and tied-second in the Big Ten in RBI.
• Lasko (57, 1st), DiGeorgio (54, 3rd), Cimillo (50, t-4th) are all tops on the conference leaderboard in runs scored.
• Cimillo (C, 16th), DiGeorgio (SS, 27th) and Santa Maria (3B, 29th) were all ranked in the top 30 at their respective positions by D1 Baseball in its midseason position rankings.
PITCHING
• Under pitching coach Brendan Monaghan, Rutgers has made its mark as one of the top pitching teams in the country.
• RU is second in the Big Ten with a 3.52 ERA.
• Friday starter Jared Kollar has emerged as one of the top pitchers in the league. He is among the best in the Big Ten with a 2.76 ERA, 4.19 K/BB ratio, 1.02 WHIP and seven victories, all of which rank in the top five.
• The team has 17 games with at least 10 strikeouts this season with a high of 16 against Omaha on March
20.
• Dale Stanavich, a member of the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list, is tied for first in the Big Ten with 10 saves and has 37 strikeouts to just six walks in 23.1 IP. Eight of his saves had been at least four outs and 15 of his 18 outings have been scoreless.
