PISCATAWAY, NJ -- No. 24 Rutgers remains undefeated with an assertive 74-63 win over the Merrimack Warriors Wednesday evening, concluding their four-game home stand.
 
The Scarlet Knights defense held Merrimack to 38 percent shooting in the first half, taking a seven-point lead into the break. Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, and Lathan Sommerville continued strong starts to their young careers - they combined for 20 of the team's 37 first-half points.
 
Bailey led the way for Rutgers, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds - his first career double-double. Harper concluded with 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
 
Merrimack transfer Jordan Derkack didn't hold back against his old squad. He knocked down the first basket of the game without hesitation. Derkack posted seven points, six rebounds, five assists, and a steal, once again contributing in every way he can.
 
Junior Emmanuel Ogbole made his presence felt - Rutgers outscored Merrimack by 15 with the 6-foot-10 center on the court. He corralled in seven rebounds and scored six points in 19 minutes of action.
 
Senior captain Zach Martini, graduate student Tyson Acuff, fifth-year PJ Hayes, and Derkack, all four Rutgers transfers, knocked in a three-pointer for the Scarlet Knights. 

Rutgers took a 13-5 lead out of the gates. Merrimack countered to bring the deficit back to one point at 17-16 and kept it at one point until it was 25-24 at the 8:25 mark. RU closed the opening half on a 12-6 run for a seven-point halftime lead, as Merrimack shot 2-of-12 from the field to close out the half.

To start the second half, RU made five of its first eight shots to establish a 12-point lead. RU was keeping that lead, then a 7-0 run for Merrimack got them back with seven at 65-58 with 2:41 to play and held from there.

Merrimack never led in the game and were only tied for the first 17 seconds.
 
Rutgers won the rebounding battle 45-32 and shot 17-for-23 from the free throw line - 74 percent.
 
The Scarlet Knights are back in action for their first away game of the season against Kennesaw St. on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1 pm.

"We are trying to improve on some of our weaknesses. We did not defend the three well in the last three games, and we did a great job of that today. They learned from film, taking it personally, and played a lot of different styled teams, so we were ready. We have a lot of pieces, and still have to figure out the rotation. But, to have Jerimiah [Williams] back is another dimension to our team and today was the first game really the entire roster was available. I'd like to keep it that way but, we have a long way to go. Scored 74 points, making all of our free throws except for one in the second half, but we outrebounded them which is one of our Achilles. "Plus, fifteen, I thought he [Emmanuel Oglobe] was really good today and has had really good practices. He [Emmanuel Oglobe] came out with an edge today and he has many tools to do good things. He will continue to get better even after not playing in a long time due to the injury. "I think you got it spot on, I knew what I was asking for when I went into the portal. I know I wanted to play at a higher level and to have decisions to make when going into teams and you get to play with these guys, good offensive players, good defensive players, I found myself being able to fit in nicely.
