PISCATAWAY, N.J.  – Rutgers women's soccer fell to No. 25 Ohio State by a score of 4-2 on Thursday night at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights (3-7-4, 1-7-1) fell behind early to the Buckeyes (7-2-6, 3-1-5) and were unable to overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit.
OSU got the scoring opened early, slotting home a volley off a corner kick in the second minute. The Buckeyes followed with a shot from distance just 27 seconds later to make it 2-0.
The visitors would add onto their lead in the 19th minute and took a 3-0 advantage at halftime.
In the 59th minute, Ohio State's goalkeeper was shown a red card for fouling
Nata Ramirez on a breakaway. RU took advantage of the player-up scenario just three minutes later when
Kennedi Cotter headed in a service from
Ashley Baran to make it 3-1.
The Buckeyes followed suit with their fourth of the game in the 65th minute to take back control with a 4-1 advantage.
With just over three minutes remaining,
Reilly McGlinn slotted home a rebound off a
Morgan Hippeli shot for her first goal of the season. McGlinn's effort was too little, too late, however, as RU fell by a 4-2 margin.
Rutgers wraps up the home slate against Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Yurcak Field. Prior to the match, the Scarlet Knights will honor their five graduating seniors for the annual Senior day ceremony.
