HILLSBORO, Ore . – Rutgers softball outlasted Portland State on Wednesday, 8-2, to win its second game of its spring break west coast trip.

- Freshman Kelsey Hoekstra got the win to up her mark to 5-7 on the season. She totaled 6.1 innings of work giving up three runs on five hits while fanning four Vikings.
- Leadoff Jillian Anderson and fellow veteran Scarlet Knight LA Matthews were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Anderson also plated twice.
- Redshirt sophomore Bailey Briggs added an RBI on a sac fly, while freshmen Jayla Fuller and Addie Osborne also contributed RBIs.
- Bailey Briggs put Rutgers up 1-0 in the first inning scoring Jillian Anderson on a foul fly out to left to earn the sacrifice fly.
- The Scarlet Knights went up 8-0 in the third pushing across seven runs on five hits. The inning kicked off with LA Matthew and Bailey Briggs both posting base hits and scoring on a Jayla Fuller single to left. Briggs later scored on a passed ball. The runs continued as the bases were loaded for Addie Osborne to record the RBI on a walk followed by Jillian Anderson singling to left to plate Siera Hoekstra. The bases were once again loaded as Rutgers went thru the batting order for Matthews to return to the plate deliver a two-run single to center to round of the inning's scoring.
- Portland State capitalized on walks with the bases loaded to get on the scoreboard and cut into the RU lead. ALison Harris, Alapese Matautia and Grace Johnson all send in runs after taking four balls at the plate for the Vikings to trail 8-3 at the end of four.
- The Vikings tacked on three more runs off home runs in the sixth and seventh for the game's final margin. Harris connected on a solo shot to left in the sixth while Sherreigh Nakoa-Chung homered to right in the seventh with no outs. Rutgers, however, make quick work of the hosts sending down the Vikings 1-2-3 to follow and earn the victory.
Rutgers softball returns to action in the first-ever meeting with Washington as conference opponents this weekend. The Huskies host the Scarlet Knights on Friday, March 21 at 10 p.m. (ET) and Saturday, March 22 at 6 p.m. (ET). Games will be streamed on B1G+.
