PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers history was made as freshman right-hander Ella Harrison became the Scarlet Knight season strikeout leader on Saturday afternoon in a 4-2 setback with Northwestern at the RU Softball Complex.
Harrison, who tossed her 16th complete game, struck out four Wildcats on the afternoon bringing her season total to 194 on the year, surpassing the previous record of 192 captured by Alyssa Landrith in 2013. The Clarence, New York native is now 10 strikeouts away from joining the Rutgers career top 10.
Rutgers led 2-1 after two innings of play, but Northwestern plated two runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth to take the second game of the series.

- Ella Harrison went the distance giving up a pair of earned runs on six hits en route to setting the single-season strikeout record.
- Senior Georgia Ingle posted an RBI single for RU's first run while freshman Riley Hwang earned an RBI walking with the based loaded.
- Graduate student LA Matthews registered her ninth double of the year while hits also went to redshirt sophomore Bailey Briggs and freshman Addie Osborne.
- A pair of fielder's choices and a wild pitch put Bailey Briggs onto third base in the first inning setting up Georgia Ingle to score the redshirt sophomore on an infield single for a 1-0 lead
- Northwestern tied the ball game in the bottom half on a solo home run down the left field line from Bridget Donahey.
Rutgers, however, took the lead back in their return trip to the plate. Addie Osborne led off with a single and the next three Scarlet Knight batters walked to give RU a 2-1 edge. The bases were loaded for Riley Hwang to take a base on four straight balls to score Osborne.
- The Wildcats took the lead in the fourth with two runs on two hits. Kansas Robinson, who led off the inning on a walk, tied the game up scoring on a passed ball while the bases were loaded for Grace Nieto to walk in Donahey.
- In the fifth, Northwestern added an insurance run. With two outs Donahey singled down the left field line and score on a Izzy Cunnea single off the left field wall.
The Rutgers-Northwestern series comes to a close on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a postgame Easter egg hunt following the game. Admission to all Rutgers softball games is free.
