COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rutgers baseball won its rubber match at Ohio State by a score of 13-5 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium.
The Scarlet Knights (20-24, 9-12) scored in seven-of-nine innings, including multiple runs in five innings to run away from the Buckeyes (11-30, 3-18) and clinch the series win.
Despite falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, RU rallied to tie the game in the fourth and take the lead in the fifth, using eight unanswered runs in the middle innings to take control of the game.
A two-run single from Pablo Santos opened the scoring for Rutgers in the top of the second. After a two-run double from OSU gave the hosts a 4-2 advantage, a Trevor Cohen single and Buckeye error plated a pair for the Scarlet Knights to make it 4-4 in the top of the fourth.
Another error on a ball hit by JT Thompson made it 5-4, giving RU a lead it would ultimately never relinquish. Matt Chatelle singled in another in the fifth to make it 6-4. Cohen doubled in two more to make it 8-4, Ty Doucette singled in one to make it 9-4 and Cohen scored on a double-steal to make it 10-4.
In the top of the ninth, RJ Johnson Jr. singled into right to score Pablo Santos and Cohen followed with a two-run double to push the score to 13-5.
In total, Cohen was 3-for-6 on the day and tied a career high with five RBIs.
Justin Shadek earned the win on a Sunday for the second straight week, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out five.
Luke Fithian bridged the gap to ninth, pitching three strong innings of relief, giving up just one run on two hits and striking out three batters. Ryan Bradley finished off the victory with a scoreless ninth, striking out one.

- Trevor Cohen recorded his team-high 22nd multi-hit game of the season and 14th multi-hit game in just 21 Big Ten contests.
- Ty Doucette recorded his 21st multi-hit game of the season.
- The Rutgers offense recorded double-digit hits for the sixth straight game.

Rutgers returns to action Tuesday with a midweek contest at UConn. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Storrs and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBSSN.
