PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer shut out Fairfield by a score of 2-0 on Sunday evening at Yurcak Field. The Scarlet Knights (2-0) have earned back-to-back shutouts to open the season on a dominant note.
Nata Ramirez put RU on top just 10 minutes into the contest to continue her hot start to the season. After settling play following a corner kick,
Patricia Tsokos found Ramirez on the far right wing and Ramirez lofted a shot over the keeper's head to make it 1-0. The goal was Ramirez's first as a Scarlet Knight and her team-best fourth point of the young season after two assists on Thursday against NJIT.
While chances were limited the rest of the half, the Scarlet Knights were able to double their lead just before halftime.Â
Olivia Russomanno sent in a corner that found the frame of the goal, which Fairfield's keeper swatted away. True freshman
Lindsey Hailey was waiting on the doorstep to slam home the rebound for her first career goal and put RU up by a pair.Â
That lead would be plenty, as Rutgers anchored down on defense and controlled possession to close out the victory.Â
In her season debut, goalkeeper
Olivia Bodmer posted her 17th career shutout and added seven saves to give her 153 for her career.Â
Next up for Rutgers is the first road contest of the year against Princeton, set for 5 p.m. on Friday at Roberts Stadium.Â
