Scarlet Knights With Their First Set Win Over A Top 25 Program Since 2023 & First Set Win Over A Top 15 Program Since 2021
PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers volleyball took a set off a top 25 opponent for the first time since 2023 and won a set against a top 15 opponent for the first time since 2021 in Sunday's 3-1 setback to #15 Indiana at Jersey Mike's Arena.
After dropping the opening set 25-20, the Scarlet Knights never trailed in a 25-17 second set win. The Hoosiers claimed the third set 25-21 and the fourth set came down to the bitter end. RU came back from a six-point deficit and produced a late 9-4 run to even the set at 24-24 before Indiana took the match with a 26-24 win.
Rutgers dropped to 10-6 overall and 1-3 in Big Ten action while Indiana improved to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.

- Rutgers last took a set off a top 25 opponent back on Oct. 7 in a 3-1 victory over #16 Minnesota, the Scarlet Knights' first-ever top 25 win. RU last took a set victory over a top 15 program in a 3-1 loss to #8 Purdue back on Nov. 7, 2021.
- Malia Romes led RU with a career-high 16 kills, surpassing her previous high of 14 captured in the 2026 opener versus Purdue Fort Wayne and at Vanderbilt during the Allstate Big Ten/SEC Challenge. The freshman Scarlet Knight hit. 500 on the afternoon with 26 attacks.
- Skylar George added 10 kills, seven digs and a trio of service aces.
- Brooke Baldwin collected 26 assists and Lily Bolen added 23 assists for the offense.
- Natalie Robinson joined Romes with a team-high three blocks.

- SET 1 (20-25) | The opening frame saw seven ties and seven lead changes play out and while RU had the advantage at the midway point, a late Indiana run gave the Hoosiers the set. Back-to-back kills from Skylar George had the Scarlet Knights ahead 17-16, but the Hoosiers came back behind a 6-1 run and finished out the set hitting .542 with only one error on 24 attacks. Malia Romes punched in a pair of late kills, whichĀ her final of the frame had Rutgers behind 23-20 before the Hoosiers put away the opener. Romes produced six kills on nine swings and hit .556
- SET 2 (25-17) | Rutgers never trailed and the only tie was at 1-1 as the Scarlet Knights went out to a 10-5 edge and played its way to a 15-7 advantage at the break. Ā Imani Howell served up an ace, extending the lead to 18-10, prompting a Hoosier timeout. Indiana would only pull as close as five the rest of the way. Aspen Maxwell delivered four kills on eight swings to lead the attack in the frame while as a team, the Scarlet Knights committed only one miscue and hit .382.

- SET 3 (25-21) | Rutgers overcame a six-point deficit and went on a 10-4 run as Aspen Maxwell brushed the Hoosier block to even the score at 16-16. A Maxwell attack tied the score again at 17-17 and an Imani Howell kill knotted the set up at 18-18, but the Hoosiers went on a 6-1 run to take back the lead for good. The Scarlet Knights were hampered by nine miscues as George and Romes collected three kills apiece.
- SET 4 (26-24) | A six-point deficit turned into an exciting finish as Rutgers came back to tie up the set at 24-24. The Scarlet Knights at one point trailed 14-8 and Indiana eventually headed into the stretch leading 20-15. Romes kicked off a string of five answered points and a solo stop from Karis Willow capped the burst as she knotted the score at 20-20. While Indiana went back in front with the next two points, Howell and Willow teamed up at the net for a stop and a Hoosier miscue tied the score 23-23. An Avery Tatum swing put Indiana in front again, but Howell powered down the middle for the fourth tie of the frame at 24-24. The Hoosiers, however, took the next two points for the victory. Romes and Willow both led RU with four kills each in the final frame.
