Baseball Loses Game Two to Michigan

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball dropped an 11-5 decision to Michigan on Saturday at Bainton Field.
The Scarlet Knights (15-11, 4-4) went down 7-0 early and were unable to complete the big comeback, with the Wolverines (13-13, 2-6) forcing a Sunday rubber match.
Michigan scored three in the first and four in the third to take control of the game from the jump. While RU clawed back on an RBI single from Chase Krewson and three-run homer from Charlie Meglio, 7-4 was as close as the game would get.
With Meglio's homer making it a three-run game in the sixth, the Scarlet Knights stranded runners to end the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to limit any chance of a comeback.
A solo homer in the eighth and three-run homer in the ninth gave Michigan plenty of breathing room, pushing the score to 11-4. While Jack Sweeney hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the ninth, that was all the offense on the day for RU, who fell 11-5.
The series finale and rubber match between Rutgers and Michigan is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Bainton Field.
