Baseball Loses Series Finale to Michigan
Mar 29 | Baseball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball lost Sunday's series finale to Michigan by a score of 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Bainton Field.
The middle innings were the deciding factor on Sunday, with the Wolverines (14-13, 3-6) scoring three in the fourth and one in the fifth to take control of the game and beat the Scarlet Knights (15-12, 4-5) to clinch the series.
While the teams traded runs early on a Trey Wells RBI single and UM solo home run, Michigan loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Two singles and a wild pitch would make it 4-1 and give the visitors the momentum.
An RBI single in the fifth made it 5-1 before a pair of RU errors in the seventh made it 6-1.
Ryan Jaros lifted a solo home run in the seventh, his third of the season, but it was not enough as that was the rest of the scoring for Rutgers on the day.
Zach Gleason pitched well in relief, striking out four in two perfect innings in the eighth and ninth. Jaros collected a pair of hits on the day, and Peyton Bonds also stole his team-high 11th base of the year.
Rutgers is back in action on Tuesday night, taking on Hofstra at 6 p.m. under the lights at Bainton Field.
