PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball slugged four home runs en route to a dominant 11-5, series-clinching win over Ohio State on Sunday at Bainton Field.
The Scarlet Knights (22-22, 9-12) scored eight in the bottom of the sixth to put away the Buckeyes (21-21, 10-11) and earn their second straight Big Ten series win.
Ryan Jaros launched two solo home runs for his first career multi-home run game. Gabriel Rivera added a two-run homer and Chase Krewson hit a three-run homer, both of which came in the big sixth inning.
Chris Sand delivered his best start for Rutgers, earning the win behind five strong innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with a strikeout and no walks.
After OSU took an early 2-0 lead in the third, Jaros got RU back in the game with a pair of solo home runs in the third and fifth innings to make it 2-2.
After Sand's day was done, Zach Gleason came in and threw a scoreless sixth.
The Rutgers bats exploded in the bottom of the sixth for eight runs to flip the game and put RU in the driver's seat.
Tristan Salinas led off the frame with a single and Rivera followed with a towering go-ahead two-run homer to make it 4-2. After a Yomar Carreras walk and Charlie Meglio single, a fielder's choice error brought in one to make it 5-2.
Chase Krewson broke the game wide open with a three-run homer to bring it to 8-2. Salinas added a two-run double for good measure to push the advantage to 10-2.
A double and single gave the Buckeyes two in the seventh, while Trey Wells answered with an RBI groundout in the eighth to bring it to 11-4.
Jason Masick finished off the win on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing one run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The bottom of the lineup was especially effective for RU, with Jaros, Krewson and Matt Chatelle all collecting multi-hit games and combining for five RBIs.
Rutgers is back in action with a midweek game against UConn at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Bainton Field.
