Drake Porter Wins Gold, Colin Kirst Takes Silver at Pan-Am Lacrosse Championships

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Two Scarlet Knights competed for international teams at an international lacrosse tournament held over the past week as the Pan-American Men's Lacrosse Championships took place in Jamaica. Current RU assistant men's lacrosse coach Drake Porter won a Gold Medal for Team Canada while former RU All-American goalkeeper Colin Kirst took Silver with Team USA.
Porter played in five games for Canada over the course of the event as the Canadians went undefeated in the tournament to win the trophy. Porter made 12 saves and allowed just 11 goals. In the finale Sunday, Porter split time in the cage, with Canada topping USA, 9-8.
Kirst played in three games of the four games in the goal for Team USA, holding a save percentage of 63%. He also saw time at attack, scoring a goal himself. USA went 3-1 with just the lone loss to Canada in the finale.
As the top two finishers in the 2026 Pan-American games, both Canada and the USA have qualified for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men's Championship, which will take place in Tokyo on June 18-27.
Porter originally joined the Rutgers coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season and has spent two seasons on the Scarlet Knights staff working with the team's specialists (goalkeepers and faceoff). He has been key in mentoring RU goalkeeper Cardin Stoller, an All-American and two-time All-Big Ten selection. As a player, the native of Ontario was a Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection in 2021, Second Team All-American and Scholar All-American in 2020 and All-ACC selection in 2019 playing for Syracuse, twice leading the ACC in save percentage. Porter played professionally for the New York Atlas and was a member of Team Canada's U-19 Silver Medal Squad and World Games Gold Medal Team in 2022 and also participated in Fall Classic Scrimmages from 2019 to 2023.
Kirst spent two seasons at Rutgers as the starting goalkeeper, compiling a 55.1% save percentage and 10.95 goals-against-average. He made 336 saves and held a record on 24-8, as he led RU to the NCAA Tournament in both years, with a 3-2 record in NCAA games as he backstopped RU to the 2022 Final Four and 2021 Elite Eight. The Bernardsville, N.J. native was a two-time All-American and two-time First Team All-Big Ten Selection, including being named the Big Ten Specialist of the Year in 2021. He plays professional lacrosse with the Boston Cannons in the PLL.
