Abby Detering, who guides the Scarlet Knight setters, begins her fourth season as a member of the Rutgers volleyball staff most recently being elevated to associate head coach in May of 2024. During her time "On The Banks", Detering has been a key member in the team's tremendous growth during the Schweihofer era, bringing a Big Ten pedigree as an AVCA All-American standout at Penn State.
In her first season at Rutgers in 2022, the team had its best start since 1998 and four Scarlet Knights were named to All-Tournament squads. By the season's end, RU made 11 entries on the rally-era season leaders list.

Before arriving at Rutgers, Detering was an assistant at Kent State for three seasons where she helped develop a two-time All-MAC performer and the second setter in program history to attain 1,000 career digs. While on the sidelines, the Golden Flash led the Mid-American Conference in hitting percentage and ranked second in kills per set.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Detering began her collegiate career at Florida before joining the Nittany Lions for her junior and season seasons. Altogether Detering totaled 12 NCAA Tournament victories during her career under the guidance of legendary coaches Russ Rose and Mary Wise.
